Urban vitality Developer built stability into Tower Grove area, asserts writer of neighborhood history. It has been more than a century since the Connecticut Mutual life assurance Company owned land southeast of Grand Boulevard and arms depot Street.

While living in the area, Abbott started researching the history of the area east and south of Tower Grove Park.

The writers discovered the key role played by Connecticut Mutual Life when it owned property between Gustine and Grand in the latter 19th century. A location not listed in the book, but dear to Abbott's heart is his home in the 3600 block of Hartford Street.
